Socialism Is Dependence On Government. Democrat Leader Ocasio-Cortez Celebrates Amazon Cancelling New York Location. Less Jobs For Her Community
While simultaneously being slammed by New York`s governor as well as New Yorker`s themselves, democrat leader Alexandria Ocasio Cortez celebrated Amazon`s decision to not open a new headquarter in New York. The opening was supposed to bring in 25,000 new jobs which is estimated to create an additional 50,000 jobs or more from outside businesses and job openings thanks to the stronger economy. In a statement Amazon said
“After much thought and deliberation, we’ve decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens,” Amazon said. “While polls show that 70 percent of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City.”
The opposition to Amazon came most notably from democrat leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who actually celebrated Amazon`s pullout and the lack of job creation. The reasoning was that New York`s governor had promised Amazon a $3 billion tax credit. Democrat leader Ocasio-Cortez argued that that money could be better spent on infrastructure, teachers, etc. While that may be a legitimate point, one should just look at Seattle and how they have impacted the city. An article titled “Thanks to Amazon, Seattle is now America’s biggest company town” not only states that Amazon has invested over $4 billion back into Seattle, but that “Amazon’s rapid rise has fueled an economy that has driven up wages and lowered unemployment…”. They are being credited with driving up the housing market as well as local retail and department stores along with Seattle seeing a “record level of private investment,” as well as significant levels of public infrastructure investment. Despite a $3 billion tax credit, an Amazon headquarters opening in New York was expected to bring in over $25 billion in tax revenue over the next 20 years.
After hearing some statements from democrat leader Ocasio- Cortez, including such things as ‘Amazon said it would bring 25,000 jobs to New York, but would they really’, and ‘Somewhere along the line the math just got fuzzy’, you get the impression that she really is just that clueless. On the other hand, noting her socialist policies, it could be argued that this was a calculated effort to keep her constituents jobless and unable to provide for themselves as socialism demands a dependency on government. Either way, whether stupid or calculated, this makes people like her extremely dangerous to our Republic.
