Obama Loses 2 Million Twitter Followers Following Purge Of Fake & Inactive Accounts

Posted by Label56 in Blog | Politics

It`s no secret that twitter users can use fake accounts to follow them in order to make them look more popular than they actually are. The New York Times reported back in January that a company named Devumi “sells Twitter followers and retweets to celebrities, businesses and anyone who wants to appear more popular or exert influence online. Drawing on an estimated stock of at least 3.5 million automated accounts, each sold many times over, the company has provided customers with more than 200 million Twitter followers“. Over the course of this week twitter has been cracking down on and deleting fake accounts, as well as locked or inactive accounts. This crackdown has led to our former 44th president losing almost 2.5 million followers. Despite this mass deletion he remains the 3rd most followed person on twitter, but we have to wonder how many of those followers are real and how many are there to boost his status.
