Klitschko Puts Chisora In His Place

Ukrainian Vitaly Klitschko has retained his WBC heavyweight belt, getting the better of British challenger Dereck Chisora by unanimous decision.
The Zimbabwean-born Chisora found little support from the capacity crowd in Munich after delivering Klitschko a mean slap during weigh-in on Friday. He failed to offer something more consistent during the fight, which the 40-year-old champion dominated throughout.
Klitschko was clearly incensed by his opponent’s off-ring stunt, and quite predictably found an antidote against the 28-year-old Briton’s aggressive approach. And in the end, it was his greater reach, experience and composure that made the difference.
The judges scored it 118-110, 118-110 and 119-111 unanimously in favor of Klitschko. Chisora tried to blemish the evening by spitting in Klitschko’s face as the champion’s record was being called out, but only solidified his bad standing with the crowd.
The Brit went on in the same vein after the bout. At the post-match news conference he got into a brawl with former WBA champion, fellow countryman David Haye. Haye threw down a gage to Chisora, which led to a heated exchange before both came to blows. Reporters fled while security tried to separate the men.
As for Klitschko, the victory improved his record to 44 wins and 2 losses (40 KOs). He has held the 10th successful defense of the title he won from Corrie Sanders in 2004, while Chisora drops to 15-3 (9 KOs).
